Before moving to Oceanside, Sandy lived in La Grange, GA for 12 years where she was the Executive Director of Literacy Volunteers of America/Troup County Affiliate.
She moved to Oceanside in 1998. She joined the Oceanside Public Library in 2000. She was hired to start a Youth and Family Literacy Program known as "Oceanside Reads". Oceanside Reads was selected as the best literacy program in the State of California in 2004.
Sandy has served several terms on the board of directors for the Club, as chairperson for the Community Services Committee, as a member of the Young Children: Priority One committee, and a member of the Board of Trustees for the OPK Foundation.
